Partecipare al progetto DiscoverEU è stata un’opportunità che non dimenticherò facilmente. Vivo al Villaggio del Fanciullo di Trento e per me, come per gli altri ragazzi della comunità, non è scontato poter viaggiare così lontano e vedere così tanto. Il fatto che ci sia stata data questa possibilità mi ha fatto sentire davvero riconoscente: grazie al finanziamento del progetto abbiamo potuto muoverci, esplorare, imparare e metterci alla prova.

Siamo partiti in quattro ragazzi, accompagnati da due educatrici, con il nostro zaino in spalla e tanta curiosità. Il viaggio in treno è iniziato da Trento e le tappe sono state Nizza, Barcellona, Valencia, Madrid e Marsiglia. Ogni città ci ha lasciato qualcosa: le spiagge di Nizza, la Sagrada Familia di Barcellona (e addirittura abbiamo assistito a una proposta di matrimonio!), la modernissima Città delle Arti e delle Scienze di Valencia, il Museo del Prado e la vivacità di Madrid, la cattedrale “a righe” e la fonduta in Francia, fino a Marsiglia.

Durante il viaggio ho imparato tante cose nuove, anche piccole soddisfazioni personali come ordinare da sola qualcosa al bar in un’altra lingua. Sono competenze che so che mi serviranno anche in futuro: arrangiarmi, parlare con persone nuove, organizzarmi, affrontare situazioni diverse dal solito.
Non sono mancate le tratte lunghe e un po’ stancanti, ma in gruppo il tempo passava in fretta: si chiacchierava, si rideva, si giocava a carte, e il viaggio diventava parte dell’esperienza. È stato bello muoversi tutti insieme, e anche le educatrici ci hanno lasciato libertà e fiducia. Con loro, fuori dalla routine della comunità, abbiamo condiviso momenti che ci hanno uniti ancora di più.
Per me DiscoverEU è stato questo: un viaggio, certo, ma anche una crescita. Un’occasione preziosa per vedere il mondo da un po’ più vicino e per scoprire qualcosa in più anche di me stessa.

Participating in the DiscoverEU project was an opportunity I will not easily forget. I live at the Children’s Village in Trento and for me, as for the other kids in the community, it’s not a given to be able to travel so far and see so much. The fact that we were given this opportunity made me feel truly grateful: thanks to the project funding, we were able to move, explore, learn, and challenge ourselves.
We left in four boys, accompanied by two educators, with our backpack on our shoulders and a lot of curiosity. The train journey started in Trento and the stops were Nice, Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid and Marseille. Every city has left us something: the beaches of Nice, the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona (and we even witnessed a marriage proposal!), the ultra-modern City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, the Prado Museum and the vibrancy of Madrid, the “striped” cathedral and fondue in France, all the way to Marseille.
During the trip I learned many new things, even small personal satisfactions like ordering something at the bar myself in another language. These are skills I know I’ll need in the future: making do, talking to new people, organizing, dealing with different situations than usual.
There was no shortage of long and somewhat tiring routes, but as a group, time passed quickly: we chatted, laughed, played cards, and the journey became part of the experience. It was nice to all move together, and the educators also left us freedom and trust. With them, outside the routine of the community, we shared moments that united us even more.
For me DiscoverEU was this: a journey, of course, but also a growth. A precious opportunity to see the world a little closer and to discover something more about myself too.
