Ciao! Io sono Alessandra, una giovane ragazza che vive in un piccolo paese in Calabria. Ad ottobre, spinta dalla curiosità, ho deciso di contattare l’associazione Romagna Plus per prendere parte al progetto Beyond the Fields – Empowering Rural Youth for Entrepreneur Success – organizzato dall’associazione portoghese Selfmade. Il progetto in questione, ha avuto l’obiettivo di fornire conoscenze sulle imprese sociali rurali, stimolando un atteggiamento imprenditoriale tra i giovani e enfatizzando il ruolo dell’imprenditorialità rurale e sociale nell’affrontare le sfide delle comunità rurali. Il tutto mi ha entusiasmata fin da subito poiché, come già ho detto all’inizio, anch’io vivo in un’area rurale e mi piacerebbe mettermi in gioco per offrire un contributo valido per il mio piccolo paese. Sono partita dall’Italia con un semplice zaino e tantissima voglia di conoscere nuove persone, ed ho avuto davvero fortuna perché, a Napoli ho conosciuto colui che sarebbe poi diventato uno dei miei migliori amici. Insieme ci siamo diretti in Portogallo, precisamente a Castelo Novo, dove siamo rimasti dal 7 al 13 ottobre. Arrivati in struttura, una grande casa accogliente e piena di fascino, abbiamo iniziato a fare amicizia gradualmente, nonostante le diverse lingue, culture e abitudini che ci separavano. I diversi team erano composti da ragazzi provenienti dall’Italia, dalla Spagna, dal Portogallo, dalla Turchia e dalla Polonia. Ogni giorno abbiamo partecipato a una serie di attività organizzate dal team di Selfmade, trascorrendo ore a scambiarci idee, creare progetti e piani focalizzati sulle aree rurali. Abbiamo anche visitato le strade del paese ospitante, immergendoci nella sua realtà e scoprendo il territorio in modo diretto. L’attività che mi è piaciuta di più è stata quella delle serate delle diverse nazioni. Ogni team ha organizzato una serata in cui ha avuto l’opportunità di raccontare della propria cultura, organizzando giochi, presentazioni, preparando cibo tipico e condividendo balli tradizionali, creando un’atmosfera davvero speciale e di grande condivisione tra tutti noi. Lasciare il Portogallo è stato davvero difficile, tra una lacrima e un “see you soon”, piano piano ho visto quelle persone che inizialmente erano solo degli estranei, allontanarsi per seguire ciascuno la propria strada. Credo che sia davvero difficile esprimere a parole ciò che questo progetto è stato per me. Sono cresciuta tantissimo, ho imparato tanto su diversi aspetti e, soprattutto su me stessa. Non dimenticherò mai nulla di questa esperienza.

Hello. I am Alessandra, a young girl living in a small town in Calabria. In October, driven by curiosity, I decided to contact the Romagna Plus association to take part in the Beyond the Fields project – Empowering Rural Youth for Entrepreneur Success – organized by the Portuguese association Selfmade. The project in question, aimed to provide knowledge about rural social enterprises, stimulating an entrepreneurial attitude among young people and emphasizing the role of rural and social entrepreneurship in addressing the challenges of rural communities. The whole thing excited me from the start because, as I mentioned at the beginning, I too live in a rural area and would love to get involved to make a valuable contribution to my small town. I left Italy with just a backpack and a lot of desire to meet new people, and I was really lucky because, in Naples I met the one who would later become one of my best friends. Together we headed to Portugal, specifically to Castelo Novo, where we stayed from October 7 to 13.

Upon arriving at the facility, a large, cozy house full of charm, we gradually began to make friends, despite the different languages, cultures and customs that separated us. The different teams consisted of young people from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Turkey and Poland. Each day we participated in a series of activities organized by the Selfmade team, spending hours exchanging ideas, creating projects and plans focused on rural areas. We also visited the streets of the host country, immersing ourselves in its reality and discovering the area firsthand. The activity I enjoyed the most was the different countries’ evenings. Each team organized an evening where they had the opportunity to tell about their culture, organizing games, presentations, preparing typical food and sharing traditional dances, creating a really special atmosphere of great sharing among all of us. Leaving Portugal was really difficult, between a tear and a “see you soon,” slowly I saw those people who were initially just strangers, move away to each follow their own path. I think it is really hard to put into words what this project has been for me. I have grown so much, learned so much about different aspects, and most importantly about myself. I will never forget anything about this experience.
